Living In Perfect Rakamonie.

"Do The Rakamonie." - Robyn

Words can't describe how much I think Robyn is the shit. She's amazing, she's swedish, she's R&B, pop, hip-hop, and electro. I'll admit right now that Robyn's current persona (which she took on when she created Konichiwa Records) is why she rivals and possibly surpasses Lady GaGa for my affection as a pop diva. I spent a good amount of time being aware that Rakamonie was the name of her EP; not really questioning what the hell it meant, at one point assuming it was just swedish. One of my favorite interviews of her to date gave me the answer: "It's a state of mind. It's the truth and the way it makes you feel inside that gives you a swagger and the confidence to call your own shot and be who you are." I totally got this girl when I read this. It's when you're at your best, dancing like no one's watching. When you wake up in the morning looking like P. Diddy. Whatever gets you up and going: I'm a BAMF. Conceit or confidence, take it or leave it. I'll do the Rakamonie with Robyn any day.

Three songs today because I'm feeling legit.

"Handle Me" (RedOne Remix)"- Robyn
Robyn can take care of herself without a remix, but adding the producer of Lady GaGa makes this narcissistic pyscho-freaking boot-licking Robyn fanatic have some extra fun.

"A Change Of Heart (Rakamonie Remix)" - El Perro Del Mar
A somber side monologue or parenthesis to what is a smash hit single, "Dancing On My Own" (Blogged on Vertigo Shtick):  to everywhere but my home Los Angeles the majority of the United States. To people who believe music is only merited by how "sooooo LA" something is, or if something is "cool; and therefore not cool," or "Indie is the only way to go"... Allow me to ask: won't you consider a change of heart? Do The Rakamonie with me.

The original is a somber, mellow and simplistic song. The sounds reflect a time and day when I didn't know you could make music faster with the click of a button.  El Perro Del Mar's sound in this track has me yearning to rock back and forth to a chill bass line; and maybe even get my glasses fixed. Robyn pumps it up with electro synth violin, some of her own vocals, and beats in a heart broken manner only Robyn can do. Her first recorded and documented remix as a DJ/Producer outside her own.

"Sexual Eruption (Fyre Department Remix)" Snoop Dogg feat. Robyn

Anyone who remembers the censored version of the hit "Sensual Seduction" will appreciate this remix, with Robyn's feminine talk-back as she takes on both men at once. Either way, Robyn can sex you up all by herself. There's a reason why she's been making hits since 1997, and continues to do so. The fact that she can roll with the boys, and handle herself while letting her adorable Swedish-accented lisp come out (See: "Sexual Ewuption.") Can I please Gaga claw out this new "fwend" and my ex-homeboy who break her heart, please?

Lastly, AllHeartsTour is coming to Los Angeles July 23rd at the Music Box. I'm there. Who's coming with me?

Welcome To Disco Stick.

In the same way our sister blog looks at pop music in a style and analysis that goes beyond: “This songs good.” “This song sucks.” (Vertigo Shtick) Disco Stick is diving into another area of music that at one point was only discovered through word of mouth, mix-tapes, clubs and raves. I want to take a moment and thank the Internet, blogging, twitter, facebook. and MP3 files. Our world has a high BPM (beat per minute) every second and contributes to the hyper speed electro, dance, pop and remixes we listen to today. The remix has the power to save a career, ruin it completely or take a glimpse at someone else’s creative vision of another’s vision. Most remixers I've found out go beyond being DJ's and are also talented music producers; "RedOne" is more than just a Lady GaGa lyric (he's the producer of "Just Dance", get it?).

At the end of the day: I hope that you can find at least one song that will make you move or feel a way you haven’t felt before. Inside the rave of the century in Miami, the weekly pornographic dance fight in Los Angeles, or bored and stoned on your computer.
In honor of Lady Gaga’s invention of the term “Disco Stick” (which is in-fact in urban dictionary.com: Disco Stick)

Let’s go with two version of LoveGame. First:
Lovegame (Robots to Mars Remix)- My first and so far only track remixed by Robots to Mars. I couldn't really find and don't know much about them (MySpace). The most obvious difference in this song is the exchange of the blaring bass and reverb for stripped down drum and guitar medley (still synthesized, no doubt). The mood of the song really allows you to focus on the passion of Gaga’s LoveGame. The hard crash on the synth-drum on “bust that click” does remind that when she wants to take a ride on your disco stick, she can and will do it. Robots to Mars adds flesh oxygen to a beat made in outer space. Could this be a good song to strip down and make a lovegame with your lover? I haven’t tried it but if someone does please comment.

Now let’s get complicated and stupid with:
“Lovegame (Party Rock Remix)” - Lady GaGa feat. LMFAO

LMFAO (MySpace) has established themselves as the wise cracking electro-pranksters who can stand on their own with “I’m In Miami, Bitch." I can remember a lot of times I don't remember dancing to "Shots." Plus they're featured with Fergie, Chris Willis in David Guetta's: "Gettin' Over You." LMFAO as remix artists are great at creating a dialogue, and give a male perspective and juxtaposition to the message of “just wanna touch you for a minute.” If Lady GaGa’s on a mission, Redfoo and Sky Blu know how to back each other with lines “I gotta get to know ya‘ before I bend you over” and “girls want my body, but never mind.” In comparison to the Robot To Mars Mix; Party Rock adds a man's job to a great woman's touch.
